Winnie was our Foster Program’s first succcess story! Her chances of being adopted were poor: she was a “senior”, had been continually bred in a puppy mill, and needed an operation to remove tumors. But then one of our volunteers generously offered to foster her; and thanks to her doting attention, Winnie was able to comfortably sail through all her pre-op vet appointments, subsequent surgery, and recuperation. Ready for the happy ending? A neighbor met Winne, immediately fell in love, and adopted her! As you can see from these oh-so-sweet pictures, Winnie is now happily ensconced in the loving home of Kim, Rob, Dillon, Dominic, Gram and her new furry friends.
Shelter Link was showing pictures of adoptable dogs at a Bay Shore weekend street fair when Dolores and her husband happened along. Their much-loved pet had died 3 months previously, and they were just then beginning to think about maybe adopting another. When they spotted Reba’s picture and were told what a great dog she was, they made a date to meet her in person at the Shelter that coming Monday even though they were a bit unsure about adopting a pitbull. Oh, Happy Day!! Their interaction with Reba was immediately a great success, with Reba spontaneously showering them with kisses and cheerfully obeying their commands. Their ill-found fears about adopting a pitbull melted away, and they both knew they wanted this special girl to be a part of their lives. They now say that Reba is their very best girl and fills their days with love and happiness.

When Mosquito was found on the street and brought to the shelter, he was all skin and bones and with hair so matted, he had to be shorn down to the quick. But the Erb family saw beneath all that scruff, fell in love and adopted him on the spot. Now that his hair’s grown back and he’s gained some weight, Mosquito has transformed into the adorable spaghetti-loving enthusiast you see in this picture. He now spends his time between an apartment in NYC and a weekend/summer house in the Hamptons. Ain’t life funny??

Unfortunately, Pitbulls and deaf dogs are extremely misunderstood. And because Shorty was deaf AND a Pitbull, he already had two strikes against him. But Shorty is a gentle, loving and affectionate dog who wouldn’t hurt a fly. He has transitioned beautifully into our home of 5 children and two other dogs. He is easily trainable with hand signals and continues to make progress every day learning the rules of our home. He fills our hearts with love, laughter and joy. Welcome to your forever home Shorty!

Here's 5 year old Lexi on her very own comfy couch. She was adopted by an awesome, active couple who adore her and treat her like the Queen she is. When not sleeping in luxury on one of her many beds, Lexi spends her days either lounging on her couch or out on the family boat. A boat! How great is that?

This is Volunteer, Maegan, and her newly adopted best friend, Casper, who spent several months at the shelter but could not find quite the right home. During that time, Maegan was walking him daily and falling in love. Soon she realized the only home she really wanted Casper in was her very own. It is a perfect match and they are very happy!
Seniors, Rudy (ready for Easter) and Duffy (ready for a nap?), were both adopted by volunteers, Deb & Ralph D’Ambrose, special people who obviously have a soft spot for the oldies. These boys have settled nicely into their new home and get along very well with the family’s other pets. Deb and Ralph feel they are worth every effort and know the love they receive in return is priceless. Sweet!

If you'd like us to post your own Happy Tail, please email a photo of your pet adopted from The Town of Islip Animal Shelter along with a brief paragraph or two about your new friend to: Bregram@optonline.net
When Yassa saw Nova on Petfinders website, he immediately went to the shelter to check him out. He knew it was meant to be when he pulled into the Shelter's parking lot and there was Nova out in the yard as if he were just waiting for Yassa to arrive and take him home. And that's exactly what happened folks!

Another of our successful Foster stories. Momma was fostered by Francie and her family, who loved her so much they decided to make the arrangement permanent.
One of our prior adoptees dropped by for a visit at our recent Fundraiser Bake Sale at Nook & Cranny. Ziggy (bottom right) has fit in perfectly with his new family, which includes the sweetest little girl who totally adores him and another k-9 who is his best friend and playmate. Just too cute!

More adoptions...
Recently, three long-term resident female pit bull mixes were all adopted. Amy had been at the shelter for over 6 months, Amber for close to a year, and Peggy Sue for 14 months! All three of these very special girls are doing great, and we are so happy they have finally found a place to call home.

AMBER

PEGGY SUE
And still more...
On another successful day, five dogs and a few kitties all went to new homes. Among the adoptees: Griffin, a wonderful young male Am Staff mix; Chloe, a sweet 7-year-old female Shepherd mix; Cowboy, a gorgeous young male Am Staff mix; Cookie, a terrific little black female mix; and Twinkie, a very sweet adult male Am Staff mix. Hooray for all of you!
